Aiguamolls de Molins de Rei

Share:

The Molins de Rei wetlands are artificial wetlands located on the left bank of the river Llobregat, very close to the riverbed. The wetland occupies an area of 6 hectares and is the largest freshwater sheet in the Baix Llobregat. In little more than a quarter it has become a humid natural area that improves the biodiversity of the region, while allowing a public and educational use of great importance.

The wetland consists of a freshwater lagoon with a depth of between 30 and 150 cm. Around it there is a rich variety of riverside and freshwater vegetation. The presence of arboreal species such as vernis, willow and tamarisa are remarkable. However, the richness of this natural space must be thanked for the communities of plants called helofíticas, such as canyís and boga. These two species form the so-called canyars, which allow the nesting of a good group of bird species.
